In "The dog ran quickly across the field", which word is the adverb?

Correct: B — quickly. Adverbs tell us how, when or where the action happened: it ran how? Quickly.

In "We waited until the rain stopped", which word is the conjunction?

Correct: B — until. "Until" joins the two parts of the sentence together, so it is a subordinating conjunction.

In "She put the book on the table", which word is a preposition?

Correct: C — on. A preposition shows position or relationship — "on" tells us where the book is.

In "Their coats are heavier than ours", which word is a possessive pronoun?

Correct: D — ours. "Ours" stands in for "our coats" and shows ownership, which makes it a possessive pronoun. "Their" is a possessive determiner because it sits before a noun.

Tip for parents: let your child attempt every question before you step in. The explanation appears straight after they answer — read it together, then use Start again a day or two later to check it has stuck.
