What this site is for

Most 11+ practice material is a workbook with the answers in the back. That works, but children do not learn much from a tick or a cross — they learn from finding out why an answer was wrong while the question is still in their head. Every question here is followed immediately by a written explanation of the method or the rule.

The activities are deliberately short. Five to eight minutes is long enough to practise a question type properly and short enough that a child will come back tomorrow.

Who is behind it

11+ Activities is built and maintained by ZAHA Labs, an independent UK publisher of free practice tools, books and study guides for families. The site is written in plain English for parents — no tutor-speak and no claims about what any particular school wants.

How the activities are made

1. Each activity is written around a specific skill (for example, finding fractions of amounts, or applying a letter-shift code) rather than a generic “practice questions” theme.
2. Every question is answered by hand and the worked method is written out — for reasoning questions the rule is named explicitly, so children can learn the rule and not just the answer.
3. Wrong-answer options are designed to catch the common mistakes (rounding the wrong way, forgetting to carry, assuming a mirror image is a rotation) rather than being random.
4. Activities are re-read before they are published and corrected when a reader emails us something that is wrong or unclear.

What we are not

We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any school, grammar school, GL Assessment, CEM or ISEB. We do not know what will be on any particular paper, and we would not trust anyone who claims they do. What we offer is solid practice in the skills those papers draw on.

Why it is free

The practice content is free and always will be. The site is supported by our own books and by occasional affiliate links on separate review pages — never inside the activities themselves, and never in a way that changes an answer or an explanation. See our affiliate disclosure for the detail.
