Analogies are "A is to B as C is to ...". The trick is to say the relationship out loud first (young one → adult, tool → job) and then find the word that keeps the same relationship.

Correct: B — dog. A kitten is a young cat; a puppy is a young dog.

Pen is to write as scissors are to ___

Correct: A — cut. A pen is used to write; scissors are used to cut.

Hot is to cold as ancient is to ___

Correct: C — modern. Hot and cold are opposites; the opposite of ancient (very old) is modern.

Chef is to kitchen as surgeon is to ___

Correct: B — operating theatre. The relationship is a job to the exact place where it is done: a chef works in a kitchen, a surgeon operates in an operating theatre.
