A recipe uses flour and sugar in the ratio 3 : 2. If you use 300 g of flour, how much sugar do you need?

Correct: B — 200 g. 300 g is 3 parts, so one part is 300 ÷ 3 = 100 g. Sugar is 2 parts = 200 g.

£60 is shared in the ratio 2 : 3. How much is the larger share?

Correct: C — £36. 2 + 3 = 5 parts in total. £60 ÷ 5 = £12 per part. The larger share is 3 × £12 = £36.

Four pens cost £2.60. How much do 10 pens cost?

Correct: C — £6.50. Find the cost of one pen: £2.60 ÷ 4 = £0.65. Then £0.65 × 10 = £6.50.

On a map, 1 cm represents 4 km. A road measures 7.5 cm on the map. How long is the real road?

Correct: C — 30 km. Each centimetre is 4 km: 7.5 × 4 = 30, so the road is 30 km long.

Tip for parents: let your child attempt every question before you step in. The explanation appears straight after they answer — read it together, then use Start again a day or two later to check it has stuck.
